After doing decent business on the incomings of the summer transfer window, Arsenal are now focused to sell players to remove the deadwood in the squad.
There are many players in the current Arsenal’s first-team roaster, who are not in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta.
Willian Borges is one of the many names who is heading to an exit this season. He joined Arsenal last summer on a free transfer. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out too well for the Brazilian, as he was not up to the mark in terms of his performance. In 25 appearances, the former Chelsea player only managed to score one goal for the Gunners. Arsenal will be hoping to offload him this summer transfer window and clear his massive wage bill of £190,000.
Brazilian club Corinthians have made an offer to sign him on a permanent transfer. As per reports, Willian’s priority is to stay in Europe. But Corinthians are confident that the transfer will be completed before the deadline day.
Lucas Torreira is the second name on Arsenal’s departure list this season. Torreira signed for Arsenal in 2018 from Sampordia for £26 Million. In the 2018/19 season, he became a key member of the first-team squad. In the 19/20 season, the Uruguayan midfielder found it difficult to get game time, as he was often sidelined with injuries.
With Arsenal signing two midfielders Thomas Partey and Dani Ceballos (on loan from Real Madrid) last season, Torreira’s future was uncertain as he was not a part of Mikel Arteta’s plan. He was loaned out to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan. He scored only one goal in 19 appearances for the La Liga Champions, making most of his time coming on from the bench. Now, after returning to Arsenal, Torreira is again about to leave the club to find game time.
As per reports, Fiorentina have made an offer to Arsenal, to sign the midfielder. The deal looks like an initial loan deal, with an option to sign Lucas on a permanent transfer with a price valuation of £15 Million. The offer is likely to be accepted by the Gunners and Torreira is on verge of heading to exit.
Last but not least, Bosnian left-back Sead Kolasinac is also expected to leave before the transfer window ends. Arsenal signed Kolsanic on a free transfer in 2017, during the great Arsene Wenger era. Making 78 appearances for Arsenal, Sead was a key player until Arsenal signed Tierney. He played a great part in Arsenal UEFA Europa League final run in the 18/19 season. He was loaned out to Bundesliga side Schalke in January 2021 to find a decent amount of game time. As things stand, after returning to Arsenal after his loan stint, Arteta doesn’t see Sead as a part of his plans, as he prefers playing Scotland International Kieran Tierney and new signing Nuno Tavares instead of him.
Reports in London states that Sead is in talks with Arsenal to terminate his contract, to find an opportunity elsewhere. Turkish side Fenerbahçe S.K. are interested to acquire the services of the left-back. The deal is close and there is optimism that the deal can be completed in the coming days. There could be a reunion in process with Mesut Ozil, is the transfer is successfully executed.
Arsenal will travel to The Hawthorns tomorrow, as they face Championship side West Bromwich Albion in the second round fixture of the EFL Cup.
