Aaron Ramsey has been a fan favorite at Arsenal and itncame as a shock when they announced that Ramsey won’t be renewing and will rather see off his contract with the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger always wanted for Ramsey to stay at Emirates though he blamed ‘outside influences’ for his much anticipated move to Juventus.
The Welshman was in his final year with the Gunners when Arsenal hierarchy decided against extending his contract, rather took the agreed contract off the table which made pavement for pre-agreement with Juventus.
Wenger insists he did everything for Aaron to stay and Ramsey also was happy to be at Arsenal until Arsenal did that infamous u-turn.
When Wenger was asked whether he kept Ramsey at Arsenal as long as he could, the Frenchman told beIN SPORTS: ‘Yep. In the end I met him once, he wanted to stay at Arsenal.
‘They had an agreement and the club came back on that, from what I understood. I tried a long time to extend his contract but sometimes you have influences of agents as well.
‘Every case is different and you have to understand in decision makings always who is influential – or not – when you make transfers. What I know from him, he was keen to stay’
Ramsey hasn’t featured for his new Employers as much ad he would have liked owing to multiple minor injuries which had limited his Serie A inclusion to only three matches. Though, Ramsey featured for 64 minutes and scored his second goal for Juventus in Champions League fixture against Moscow yesterday.
And Arsene pointed out that featuring on regular basis will mean more to Aaron than Silverware as he enters his peak years.
On whether Turin is a good fit for Ramsey, Arsene Wenger probed: ‘If he plays. Like Ruud [Gullit] says, you have to win but as well when you’re 27 or 28, that’s your best years as a football player.
‘If you don’t play from 27-32 that’s difficult to swallow. You can be patient at 21,22,23, you’re in and out. Once you get to 27 you have to play.’
