According to reports, Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac is set to leave the Emirates Stadium in January. The Bosnian, who is currently on a £100,000-a-week deal at Arsenal is expected to join Fenerbahce in the winter transfer window.
Kolasinac’s current deal with Arsenal expires in the summer and it is unlikely that he will be looking to sign a contract extension with the club. In fact, Fenerbahce wanted to sign Kolasinac in the summer itself but a deal fell through.
The Turkish club will have the opportunity to sign the left-back on a free transfer next summer but don’t want to wait until then. However, reports claim that Fenerbahce will also not be paying any fee to sign Sead Kolasinac in January.
It is believed that Arsenal are fine with Kolasinac leaving on a free transfer in January as it eases up their wage bill. As Kolasinac is on a £100,000-a-week, it will save Arsenal a few million to spend in the next transfer window.
Sead Kolasinac has played just 90 minutes of Premier League football this season and is far from a key player for the Gunners moving forward. With Keiran Tierney impressing at Arsenal since his arrival, Kolasinac has struggled for regular football.
He was loaned out to Schalke in January and played in 17 Bundesliga games for the German side during the second half of the season. However, Super Lig giants Fenerbahce will be looking to get a deal over the line for the defender in January.
Sead Kolasinac joined Arsenal in 2017 from Schalke on a free transfer. He scored on his debut against Chelsea in the 2017 FA Community Shield, which Arsenal won on penalties. Kolasinc soon became a fan-favourite at Arsenal but a few injuries hampered his growth.
He has also won an FA Cup with the club. The 28-year-old still has plenty of football left in him and it makes sense for Arsenal to let him leave if he won’t be a regular at the North London club.
In July 2019, Kolasinac and former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil were victims in an attempted carjacking in London. Kolasinac was praised for his bravery during the incident in which he was seen fending off the masked men.
