Barcelona could do Arsenal a favour in helping them sign 26-year-old

Viktor-Gyokeres-Arsenal

Barcelona have a very weird way of going about their transfer business in recent years. Ever since they sold Neymar for that club-record transfer fee that altered the landscape of the entire footballing world, the Catalan club have had more misses than hits with their purchases in the transfer market.

Of course, there are the bigger profiles – Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele. Both never lived up to the massive price tags that Barcelona bought them for. Let’s not even get started about Philippe Coutinho who was easily the worst one out of these three. Whilst these three hog all the limelight, there are lesser-known duds from the Catalan club too.

The latest one from a long list of idea-less signings is Vitor Roque. Tigrinho, as he is known was supposed to be Barcelona’s response to Real Madrid signing Endrick. Six months into his career at the Catalan club, it looks primed for disaster. The Blaugranas panicked and overpaid for a player they are now desperate to get off their books.

This desperation could end up being a blessing in disguise to Arsenal. Sporting CP are one of the clubs interested in signing the 19-year-old Brazilian striker from Barcelona. Should they pull this deal off this summer, Deco & co. will be happy but the question is, could the Gunners be happier?

Now, now, now… You might be wondering how any of this has to do with Arsenal but we have a theory that it could. The Gunners are looking to move Eddie Nketiah on and have been linked with interest in Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres who, yes you guessed it right, plays for Sporting CP.

Until now, the Portuguese club has made it clear that they would only consider selling the ex-Coventry City striker should a club pay his release clause said to be around £86m. Of course, that valuation is outlandish but should they end up signing Roque, Sporting might be more open to discussing a move for Gyokeres.

At the back of their minds, the Portuguese club will know that it is unrealistic for anyone would pay the player’s release clause but Gyokeres will definitely sell like hotcakes should they decide to offer him out in a structured deal. This would give Edu Gaspar & co. the window to go after the 26-year-old.

With not long to go in the transfer window, Arsenal will have to make a decision. It comes down to how Sporting CP see the player’s future. For starters, them signing Roque would help. Let’s see how things pan out between Barcelona and the Portuguese club.
