Talking about the Gunners defence, Tomiyasu played more often last season owing to Jurrien Timber’s absence. It was expected that he might continue on this path but a knee injury affected his participation. The 25-year-old was left out of the entire preseason of the ongoing campaign with Oleksandr Zinchenko being the most used left-backs in those games.

Arteta was asked about Tomiyasu’s expected recovery date but the manager cast doubts about an early return, stating that it might take weeks for him to make a comeback. He said:

“It will take weeks on that one, unfortunately. He’s going to have to be patient.”

Tomiyasu wasn’t seen on the bench in both the PL games as Arteta preferred to use Timber as his number. one LB.

Zinchencko and Jacok Kiwior were seen on the bench with the former ready to pounce on a chance to start. Kieran Tierney and Kiwior face an uncertain future at the Emirates and it remains to be seen whether they find pastures somewhere else.
