Ray Parlour makes Aaron Ramsdale admission ahead of Southampton move

Aaron-Ramsdale-Southampton

Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour is surprised by Aaron Ramsdale’s decision to move to Southampton. The player-turned-pundit believes that the goalkeeper has the potential to play for a ‘big club’.

The English keeper will be relieved to find a new team after facing a difficult period on the bench at the Emirates Stadium. He wore a broad smile while signing a new contract with the Saints on the final day of the summer window.

Ramsdale joined the North London outfit in 2021. But after a run of promising games as Mikel Arteta’s first choice, he went on to play as a second-fiddle to David Raya.

However, Parlour is surprised by the English shotstopper’s decision to move to St. Mary’s, while showing utmost respect for Southampton, he acknowledged personal expectations for Ramsdale to play for a big club.

While having a chat with talkSPORT, he said: “It’s a move that Aaron obviously wants to play football. I thought he might have gone somewhere, not being disrespectful, big club, but he has made that decision.”

“He has got to now really get his head down, try really hard, get back to the keeper he was. He is a very good keeper.”

Ramsdale definitely has the capability to start for most, if not all, of the current Premier League teams and the Saints have done a really good piece of business by roping in the 26-year-old for just £25 million.

The Gunners will be a happy side as well after receiving a hefty profit for a second-choice player. Southampton’s new No. 1 has the chance to bring his career back on track.

Arteta and Edu were busy picking a replacement on the deadline day, and Bournemouth star Neto has been unveiled as the second choice goalkeeper as the former Barcelona man joins on a season-long loan move and will wear the No. 32 shirt at the Emirates.
