Arsenal will continue their challenging start to November across competitions as they prepare to travel to San Siro in bid to face Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League League fixture.

Just days before this trip, the Gunners made the shorter trip to the north of England to face Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League, however, much to the disappointment of Arsenal’s players and manager Mikel Arteta, they put in a toothless display, falling to a 1-0 defeat as Alexander Isak’s sole goal was enough to secure three points for the Toons.

In what seemed the easier of the three back-to-back away games, Arsenal have lost to Newcastle and will now face Inter away, followed by Chelsea away in the Premier League. For their trip to Italy, the Gunners will remain without captain and key midfielder Martin Odegaard as he continues to recover from an ankle injury picked up in September.

Meanwhile, Arsenal fans will have something positive to take from their defeat to the Magpies as star players Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice completed 90 minutes unscathed. William Saliba, too, marked his return from suspension in the Premier League, playing the entire game with partner Gabriel Magalhães as the pair gears up for a tougher assignment at the San Siro.

Defensive trio Riccardo Calafiori (MCL), Takehiro Tomiyasu (Calf tightness) and Kieran Tierney (unknown) will also miss the next match. Meanwhile Jurrien Timber played 76 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool and 71 minutes in the defeat at Newcastle as he continues to regain full match fitness. The Dutchman will start on the left in Calafiori’s absence, while Thomas Partey will be expected to start as the right back once again.

Gabriel Martinelli, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka will form the midfield quartet, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz expected to be the two men to lead the Gunners’ line. Being one of the few teams to not yet concede in the Champions League this season, Arteta’s men will look to put in another strong performance as they continue to navigate a challenging start to the season.

Arsenal currently ranks ninth in the UCL league phase with two wins and draw from their three games. A win against seventh placed Inter would see them leapfrog the Italians and potentially rank inside the top six at the end of Matchday 4.
