Arsenal are set to undergo changes in the backroom with Edu Gaspar set to leave the club. The Gunners now need to identify a person who embodies the vision that Edu and Mikel Arteta have carried out over the last decade and work towards improving the first team squad for the present and the future.
The Gunners have been struggling with injury issues so far this season. This has resulted in them dropping points more than they would have ideally liked to, at the beginning of the season, including the loss to Newcastle United just last weekend when Alexander Isak was on the scoresheet.
Speaking of the Swedish striker, there have been reports that Arsenal are preparing a bid to sign Isak. Arsenal view him as the ideal striker to spearhead their project and are willing to submit a bid in the nine figures to try and convince Newcastle United to sell him.
Isak: To buy or to not buy?
Since his transfer from Real Sociedad to Newcastle United, Isak has gone on from being a promising striker with huge potential to one of the best number nines in the Premier League. He excels at running into space and the Magpies deploy a system that brings the best out of him.
Isak is not the archetypal number nine. He is not an expert at playing with his back to goal. He is not someone you would expect to outmuscle the opposition center-back, like say Erling Haaland or Robert Lewandowski do. However, he is extremely smart in making the correct runs.
At 25, Isak is the perfect age for Arsenal to bet on. His style of play would suit Arsenal, especially with players like Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka capable of finding him at will. The cherry on the cake is that the Magpies forward is exceptional in the air, as the Gunners saw first hand last weekend.
It isn’t going to be easy to convince Newcastle United to sell Isak. However, despite the Magpies’ wish of snapping out from the ‘best of the rest’ tag and actually be considered one of the top clubs in England, they seem to have a glass ceiling in the near future.
This could prompt Isak to take the next step in his career. Arsenal is one of the many destinations where he could look to continue his career. Let’s wait and see how Isak’s career plays out and if the Gunners make a concrete effort to sign him in the coming months.
