Tomiyasu and Calafiori are close to a comeback, offering Arsenal and Mikel Arteta a timely boost amid Ben White recent injury setback.
Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta have received a major injury boost amid Benjamin White’s two-month absence following surgery to cure an injury. However, as per reports from Football London, full backs Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu could both be available for the Gunners after the ongoing international break.
This will come as a major source of relief for the north Londoners, who were sweating their squad depth in the aftermath of White’s surgery. The Englishman has had a procedure to rectify a minor injury he has been nursing and playing with since last season. However, he will miss up to eight weeks of action after going under the knife.
With Arsenal set to take on Nottingham Forest in their next match, Arteta will be keen to have a complete picture of availabilities as the break progresses. Having both Tomiyasu and Calafiori back would be a massive boost in terms of squad depth.
Could Calafiori and Tomiyasu be set for return from injuries?
Riccardo Calafiori suffered a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to his left knee during the Gunners’ matchup with Shakhtar in the UEFA Champions League in October. The Italian defender has already missed around three weeks of action and is set for up to another fortnight on the sidelines as he continues to recover.
While injuries to this particular ligament can be quite serious, Calafiori and Arsenal will be glad the player suffered the most minor form.
Tomiyasu, meanwhile, has been suffering from calf tightness and strains since making the switch to the Emirates Stadium back in 2021. However, this time around, the Japanese international is out with a knee injury. In total, since joining in 2021, Tomiyasu has missed a whopping 61 games for club & country as he continues to struggle.
Should he return to fitness after the international break, it would be a huge boost for Arteta who is struggling to cope with the injuries to defensive players this season.
