Arsenal are eyeing Lyon’s rising star Malick Fofana as the French club faces financial struggles, creating a potential bargain transfer opportunity.
In the wake of Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) getting hit with major financial contstraints, Arsenal are looking to make the most of the opportunity as they target winger Malick Fofana. The young Belgian has performed at a high level of late, impressing the Gunners’ scouting team.
Now, with the club in a position where they have to offload assets to stay afloat, the north Londoners and others could sign players from Lyon for cut-price rates. Aged just 19 and already a key member of the first team, Fofana has been one of the club’s best performers of late.
Mainly deployed as a left winger, Malick Fofana could prove to be the ideal cover for Gabriel Martinelli and the left wing in general – a role where Arsenal have lacked depth for years.
With Lyon in a compromising position, could the Gunners get their player?
How would Malick Fofana fit in at Arsenal?
Fofana came through the youth ranks at Belgian side Gent between 2014-22, before being promoted to their senior team that year. He spent two seasons with the senior squad, making 64 appearances across competitions, and racking up five goals and 10 assists.
Seeing this, Lyon splashed the cash on the teenager earlier this year, paying €22 million in transfer fees to land their prized target. Fofana has made 36 appearances for Lyon, nearly matching his output for Gent despite making half the appearances. He has scored nine goals and provided three assists as he continues to grow from strength to strength.
Report per Arsenal Fanatics News on Paetreon suggest that the French club’s situation could mean they will be forced to accept a low fee with the Gunners putting in a bid around €30 million for Malick Fofana. This is where Arsenal would come in, as they are in need of a similar profile, and would also be willing to pay up in order to acquire their target.
