Arsenal turn transfer attention to Florian Wirtz!
Arsenal have been in the market for attacking reinforcements over the last two windows, but have seen very little come their way in terms of luck, or players.
The Gunners have had bids for RB Leipzig pair Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko rejected, as well as approaches for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams turned down already. As a result, Arsenal Fanatics News has reported on their Patreon that the club will now turn their attention towards Bayer Leverkusen talisman Florian Wirtz.
The German has emerged as one of the best playmakers in world football over the last few seasons, performing at a high level for Leverkusen as well as for Germany. He has become an integral part of his club’s core, having come through their academy, and is considered their most-prized asset currently.
However, having seen the likes of Kai Havertz move from Leverkusen to the Premier League and achieve top success, Wirtz could be tempted to follow in those footsteps. This is where Arsenal could come in.
How would Florian Wirtz fit in at Arsenal?
Wirtz is a talented attack-minded player who stands at nearly six feet and is right-footed. Although his preferred position is through the middle and just behind the striker, he can play on either flank and has also played as a false nine before.
He will bring loads of Bundesliga experience with him despite being just 21 years of age, having broken into Bayer Leverkusen’s first team as a teenager. Since then, he has made 176 appearances for the club across competitions, contributing 52 goals and 55 assists for the team.
Wirtz has made a pretty good start to the current season as well, racking up 11 goals and five assists in 24 appearances across competitions. However, seeing his importance for the team and how high his ceiling is, Leverkusen will demand a hefty fee for the player.
The aforementioned report mentions the German club will demand a fee in the region of €100m for the player. This is mainly down to his output and his ability to play in any position in midfield or attack.
It remains to be seen whether the Gunners make a move for the player, who will most likely be available only next summer as Leverkusen will not want to sell in the middle of the season.
