Arsenal have been impressed by Como midfielder Nico Paz’s performances so far this season and are considering making a move for the Argentine in the summer. This is as per reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, which add that the Gunners will face stiff competition from LaLiga giants Real Madrid, who also hold the player in high regards.
Paz initially came through the ranks with Los Blancos and broke into their first team last season. He made eight appearances, scoring one goal as well, but departed the club in search of more game time, joining Como for a €6m fee in August 2024. Since then, Paz has made 21 appearances for the Italian side, scoring five goals and assisting four.
Arsenal will also look to possibly leverage another connection with the club, as former star Cesc Fabregas is currently manager of Como. The club have done reasonably well this season in Serie A and sit in 15th place with 22 points from 23 games, with Nico Paz’s contributions playing a key role. The Gunners will keep a close eye on his situation and will try and get in ahead of Real Madrid.
How would Nico Paz fit in at Arsenal?
Predominantly an attacking midfielder, Nico Paz joining Arsenal surely means the club views Ethan Nwaneri more as a winger, leaving the door open for the Argentine to deputize for Martin Odegaard. The Gunners are also keeping tabs on Rosenborg BK’s Sverre Nypan, who can fulfil a similar role. They are still in the race to sign one or both of these players.
Aged 20, Paz needs to play regularly and may not get that as often at Arsenal, with the club competing in all competitions, and Mikel Arteta known to stick with a fixed group of players. However, if the Spaniard has taken one lesson from this season it would be to never leave the squad short on personnel, and would be open to having another option off the bench.
