Arsenal held talks over Rodrygo but…

Rodrygo-Arsenal

Arsenal held early discussions with Rodrygo’s camp this summer but ultimately chose to prioritise other positions particularly at centre-forward. According to journalist Mario Cortegana, the club’s interest never progressed into formal negotiations, with the current squad depth on the flanks playing a key role in that decision

With both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard still in the squad, there’s little room for another high-profile wide player unless one departs. Sources suggest a deal for Rodrygo would only become possible if one of those two left the club, something Arsenal are not currently pushing for.

Rodrygo admired but not a priority for Arsenal

Rodrygo has long been admired by several top clubs, including Arsenal, but the Gunners’ main focus remains finding a new No. 9. With Viktor Gyökeres already signed, and another attacker potentially on the radar, Arsenal view central positions as a bigger need than another elite wide option.

While the Brazilian’s name was discussed internally and exploratory contact was made with his entourage, the move was never a front-burner priority. For now, Arsenal are committed to strengthening where minutes are available not stacking talent where there’s no immediate need.

No serious competition from PSG or Liverpool

Reports linking Rodrygo with PSG have been shut down, with the French club denying any current interest. Liverpool, meanwhile, are focused elsewhere their primary attacking target remains Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

That leaves the Brazilian forward without a clear next step unless something changes late in the window. Real Madrid, while they have Kylian Mbappé and Endrick, have not yet made a decision on Rodrygo’s future though reduced minutes are expected.

Author Opinion

Arsenal explored the Rodrygo opportunity but are choosing clarity over chaos. Unless Trossard or Martinelli moves on, there’s no real opening in the squad. For now, the club’s focus remains elsewhere and rightly so. With the right balance already on the wings, there’s no need to force a superstar signing that doesn’t fit the plan.
