Crystal Palace explore loan deal for 30yo Chelsea forward after Arsenal exit

Sterling-Arsenal-training

Raheem Sterling could be on the move again this summer, with Crystal Palace now seriously considering a deal for the Chelsea winger. TBR Football understands the 30-year-old is open to joining the South London club as he looks to stay in the capital.

Sterling endured a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season, scoring just once in 28 appearances across all competitions. Now unwanted at Stamford Bridge under Enzo Maresca, the England international is seeking a fresh start closer to home.

According to TBR Football Chief Correspondent Graeme Bailey, Crystal Palace have been informed of Sterling’s situation and are considering a potential move. Fulham and West Ham are also in the mix, while Serie A side Napoli have shown interest from abroad.

However, Sterling’s clear preference is to remain in London, a decision partly influenced by his family, with his son Thiago currently part of Arsenal’s Under-9 setup.

A loan deal is viewed as the most likely outcome, given Sterling still has two years left on a £325,000-a-week Chelsea contract, a wage package that presents challenges for any permanent transfer.

Glasner has already praised Sterling’s quality

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has previously highlighted Sterling’s quality, describing him as a “fantastic” player after facing him in last season’s Carabao Cup. Sterling started that match for Arsenal in a 3-2 win over the Eagles and earned praise for his off-ball work and movement despite failing to score.

Sterling is a four-time Premier League champion with experience at the highest level but his recent form has raised questions. If Palace can negotiate terms that suit all parties, it could be a high-upside deal for Glasner’s evolving squad.

Author Opinion

While Sterling’s Arsenal spell didn’t go to plan, a return to regular minutes in a Palace shirt under a manager who already values his profile, could revive his career. Palace now have a key decision to make as the summer window enters a decisive stretch.
