Juventus are making a late move in the summer transfer window as they step up talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti before Italy’s deadline on September 10.
Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks, with Juventus keen to bring in the Swiss international to add much-needed experience and composure to their midfield. At 32, Wälti remains one of Europe’s most reliable deep-lying playmakers, and her potential arrival would be a significant coup for the Bianconere.
Lia Wälti has been a Cornerstone at Arsenal
Wälti joined Arsenal from Turbine Potsdam in 2018 and has since been a cornerstone at N5, making over 100 appearances in red and white. She has helped the Gunners to major honours including the 2019 Women’s Super League title and the 2024/25 UEFA Women’s Champions League crown. Known for her calmness in possession and ability to dictate tempo, she has earned the nickname “Snake Hips” among teammates and fans alike.
Despite describing Arsenal as “home” on multiple occasions, Wälti is understood to be intrigued by a new challenge in Serie A. Sources suggest that Juventus are confident of striking a deal, especially as Wälti is now entering the final year of her Arsenal contract.
Fresh Challenge in Turin?
For Juventus, signing Wälti would represent more than just a midfield reinforcement, it would be a statement of intent. The Bianconere are determined to reclaim domestic dominance and go deeper into the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and Wälti’s wealth of experience on the biggest stage could prove invaluable.
For Arsenal, however, her departure would leave a significant gap. Alongside Kim Little, she has been part of one of the most technically assured midfield partnerships in Europe. With the Women’s Super League transfer window closing earlier than Serie A’s, Arsenal would have very limited time to line up a replacement if a deal is completed.
Talks are continuing, but with the clock ticking down, this could be one of the defining moves of the late window.
