Arsenal have got a Carabao Cup final to focus on this Sunday, but there has been some welcome news off the back of the Bayer Leverkusen win too.
Kai Havertz has been named in Germany’s squad for the upcoming international break, marking his first call-up since November 2024. Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed the decision, with Havertz set to be involved in friendly matches against Switzerland and Ghana later this month.

For a player who has not been in that national team setup off late because of injuries, this is meaningful as getting back into the fold at this stage of the season, with a World Cup on the horizon, is exactly the kind of boost he will have been looking for.
Kai Havertz Germany recall signals Arsenal forward’s return to form
The 26-year-old has had his challenges since joining Arsenal from Chelsea, but he has established himself as an important piece of Mikel Arteta’s attacking setup.
His ability to operate across multiple roles in the final third gives Arteta genuine flexibility, and that same versatility is clearly something Nagelsmann values at international level too.
Havertz’s recall comes at a time when Germany are in the process of refining their squad options ahead of major tournament football.
Nagelsmann’s latest squad also included returning players and some new faces, suggesting this is a period of genuine competition for places. Getting back into that environment now, rather than later, puts Havertz in a strong position to make his case.
What the international call-up means for Havertz and Arsenal this season
For Arsenal, a fit and confident Havertz is good news. His immediate priority is Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium, where Arteta’s side are aiming to end a trophy drought stretching back to 2020.
The Gunners have combined strong domestic form with impressive European performances to reach this point, and Havertz has been part of that run.
The international break follows shortly after the final, which means Havertz will head into the Germany camp on the back of what Arsenal hope will be a winning occasion.
