Arsenal are “seriously interested” in a 22-year-old Club Brugge striker with 12 goals in 14 games, but January looks too soon

Arsenal are seriously interested in Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, according to Sky Sports in Germany, but a January move is not expected.

The 22-year-old has been on the Gunners’ radar since last summer and the club are continuing to monitor his development. Those close to the player do not expect him to move in the winter window, and the topic is expected to resurface as the summer approaches.

Tresoldi is under contract until 2029, which hands Club Brugge plenty of leverage. Sky add that Arsenal are not the only club in the mix, with multiple top clubs reportedly monitoring the situation.

Why is Nicolo Tresoldi on Arsenal’s radar?

The numbers explain the interest. Tresoldi has 12 goals in 14 games this season, including four in three matches in the Champions League. One of those came against Premier League opposition in Aston Villa.

He also plays for the Germany under-21s, scoring 16 goals in 27 matches. Four of those came in three games over the September-October break.

That kind of output, from a striker this young, is exactly what puts a name on a shortlist when Arsenal’s centre-forward plans are discussed.

Nicolo Tresoldi transfer: what happened last summer?

This is not the first time the Gunners have been linked. Arsenal were touted as one of three clubs pushing to sign the forward over the summer, and Christian Falk reported in April that the Gunners were seriously interested and the favourites to make the signing.

Club Brugge felt he should stay for at least one more season, and Tresoldi did not push them to change their minds. Arsenal went on to sign Christos Tzolis from the same club, and the winger made a strong start to life in north London before his injury over the international break.

That deal gives the two clubs a recent connection, and it is one reason the Tresoldi story keeps coming back, alongside how the striker department has been shaped in recent months.

Will Arsenal wait for a Nicolo Tresoldi move?

It looks that way. Any deal would need agreement from all parties given his form and long contract, so the move is more likely to wait until next summer than the January window.

Arsenal’s continued monitoring suggests the 22-year-old remains a name of interest as the club assesses its forward options for the longer term. Compare that with the wage questions around bigger names and a young, in-form striker on a long deal has obvious appeal.

Patience looks right. Tresoldi is scoring freely, Brugge hold all the cards until 2029, and January deals for in-form strikers rarely work out. If the goals keep coming, the price only goes one way, so Gooners should expect this to run into the summer.
