Granit Xhaka suffered an injury on his left knee while training after collision with his Switzerland team-mate Valon Behrami.
As per the media reports, he was not hospitalized and was assessed and treated by the Swiss team doctors at hotel after he visited a clinic only to undergo a MRI scan.
However, the Swiss football federation (SFV) says he was ‘diagnosed with “only” a painful knee bruising this evening’. He is expected start against Brazil, on June 17 in Rostov.
“I’m very relieved,” Xhaka said when he returned to the team hotel after Thursday’s MRI examination at the Moncucco clinic in Lugano
“We could already see that the ligaments were intact, but we wanted to play it safe, also with regard to the meniscus,” explains team doctor Fournier, adding: “We are very relieved that it is only a painful bone bruise – and very grateful that we were able to do an MRI scan late in the evening.”
Switzerland will face Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica in World Cup Group E.
