Arsenal played hosts to Huddersfield Town on Saturday as Unai Emery and his men initiated their quest to make it twenty-one wins in a row.
It did turn out to be a frustrating afternoon for the players as well as fans, who were eventually booing when every whistle was raised by the ref. But Gunners ain’t going down easily as the magnificent Lucas Torreira came to rescue seven minutes before ninety to ensure Arsenal take three points.
Arsenal moves up to third place with Chelsea hosting Manchester City later tonight.
Unai Emery opted with two men striking force in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, both of them eventually missing clear opportunities on the goal in the first-half. It should have been shaving in the back of the net any other night.
Emery went on to substitute Lacazette at the half time. Nevertheless, Three points are WHAT MATTERS.
Mustafi & Sokratis suspended
Arsenal now visit to St. Mary’s to face Southampton next Sunday. But they will miss out on services of Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, both of whom serve suspensions for five yellow League carpets for the season.
[Premier League rules stipulate that any player reaching five bookings must serve a one-match ban.]
Laurent Koscielny is expected to lead Arsenal against Southampton with Rob Holding out of the season and Julio Pleguezuelo the expected partner. Arsenal also have Nacho Monreal, who made his return against Huddersfield, an option to slot in at Centre-Back. Something Arsene Wenger used to do in his last season at Arsenal.
They’ve got a week to work on it but Emery’s preferred back three of late- Sokratis (suspended), Mustafi (suspended/possibly injured) and Holding (injured) will all be missing against Southampton. Monreal back but must be short of match fitness, Koscielny the same.
