Gedion Zelalem, once regarded as the Next Cesc Fabregas has seen his career gone downhill from training at London Conley to joining Sporting Kansas City on a free transfer on a permanent basis a few weeks ago – marking his return to United States after six years in North London.
Zelalem has regarded one of the upcoming wonder-kids after being included in Arsenal’s Asian summer tour back in 2013 followed by some astral performances. Something which in his words – CRAZY.
“It was pretty crazy, but I was also very confident,” Gedion Zelalem said in an recent interview with Kicker, as per Daily Cannon .
“I had worked very hard for it, always wanted to go to the pros – and I did that.”
However, his injury lade spell on the sidelines was nothing but an end to his career in England which as he reveals is why he never got to make an appearance in the Premier League.
“Arsene Wenger always wanted me to get stronger so I could physically compete in the Premier League,” Zelalem continued.
“My parents are Ethiopians, we are not so strong men. (laughs) Meanwhile, that has changed a bit with me.
“However, I was seriously injured in May 2017 (cruciate ligament rupture), was a total of 18 months out.
“When I was finally fit again, Arsenal had probably locked up with me and not used me, not even in the U23.”
Now he is looking for a fresh start in United States, hoping to layoff his injury vows far-behind in England.
“Because Arsenal knew that I would change, I was not allowed to play there any more and therefore had a considerable fitness backlog,” he added.
“I might need two, three games in the second team, but then I’m very confident that I will become a regular.
“Clearly a new start. The league has caught up in the last five years, you can also recommend for the national team or for a chance to Europe. Who knows what else will happen.”
