Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil has endured quite a torrid season under new manager Unai Emery but has insisted that he will not look out for an easy exit in the summer transfer window.
The German World Cup winner has struggled to get himself a regular spot in Emery’s side as the Spaniard claimed that he was keeping Ozil out due to tactical reasons. Ozil signed a contract extension in January 2018 which made him the highest earner at the club as he takes home £350,000 a week until 2021.
But at present, that deal seems to be a monumental mistake as Ozil has received criticism from plenty of pundits and even fans for his lack of effort on the pitch.
The 30-year-old arrived from Real Madrid back in 2013 and helped Arsenal end their long wait for a trophy but now looks to be on the exit door at the Emirates.
However, Ozil spoke to German news outlet DANZ DACH and said that he is prepared to work hard in training for the club and continue fighting for a starting berth despite Emery’s decisions, “If the coach speaks to me and tells me I won’t play in a game it’s something I need to accept and just get on with it, I’ve carried on working on making myself as fit and healthy as I could and it’s worked out for me. Now I’m playing, but of course, it’s the coach’s decision if I play or not. I’ve had some injuries this season and I’ve had to miss some games. But I know when I’m fit I’ll play matches.”
He was then asked whether the thought of leaving Arsenal ever crossed his mind to which he replied, “I don’t think there’s a chance of that, to be honest, I’ve got two more years here and what happens afterward is not in my hands. We’ll see then, but I’m proud to be at this club and really happy at this club.”
