August 8, 2019: Arsenal reached an agreement with Everton for the transfer of Alex Iwobi for 35mil pounds fee, in a deal that was much of a shocker then. Then head coach Unai Emery spoke about how integral Alex was to Arsenal following his departure: “Alex has made a big contribution here at Arsenal. He worked hard in the academy where he was an example to many young players and has been an important part of our squad. We wish Alex every success in the future.”
Arsenal brought in a high-profile signing in Nicolas Pepe and someone had to make room, Alex Iwobi took the fall.
He has had some difficulties in his life at Everton and get his laces strapped and get himself running. But since Frank Lampard changed his role into a bit-deeper midfield role (or kind-a CM-esque) – he has been Everton’s, if not the most, one of the most important player.
Honestly, watching him do well brings a big smile on my face. Every time I put on a Everton game, I am bagging for Iwobi to bag a goal or put in an exemplary performance. As they say, once a gunner…
Looks like the feelings are mutual!
Alex Iwobi appeared on The Beautiful Game Podcast speaking about Arsenal, his Arsenal departure, Everton season, Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche’s impact, and ofcourse getting promoted from Arsenal academy and Arsene Wenger.
Listening to it, something stood out to me and has played and replayed in my mind for a while. The respect he has for Arsenal is massive and moreover he still looks at Arsenal as home. Man, it’s soo good to see this respect and pride our Hale End boys have.
This is what Alex said: “I have that perspective Arsenal made me so like I’ll always be grateful always see it as home as much as Everton is my home now I always see Arsenal as home.”
