Pundit aids Arsenal ace as ‘better than Thomas Muller’

Havertz-Muller-Comparison

Arsenal are up and running in the 2024-25 Premier League season with five points from a possible seven. They are in sublime form and will be battling to dethrone Manchester City as Premier League champions.

The Gunners strengthened the weaker positions in the squad by bringing in quality alternatives in the recent summer window. Eyebrows were raised when they ignored calls for bringing in a new forward.

However, Mikel Arteta managed to add Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling to his roster on the final day. Although he is not an out-and-out striker, he will definitely provide an extra option.

The North London outfit were linked with a host of top stars, such as Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen. But the manager is happy with his current choices and decided to place his faith in the ever-reliable Kai Havertz.

The German is repaying the trust back by scoring two goals and setting up another in just three goals, with the most recent one coming against Brighton & Hove Albion.

He has been lauded for his recent displays, with journalist Rory Smith claiming that the 25-year-old is technically better than Bayern Munich maestro Thomas Muller. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he said:

The player he always reminds me of is Thomas Muller. He is a lot neater than Muller, technically.”

“Muller is all kind of arms and legs, but it’s that same ability to get into spaces that defenders don’t want you to be in, to ask questions that they are not expecting to have to answer, to cause problems even though they are not kind of the most obvious ones. That’s the sort of player Havertz is.”

It is a bold claim to say that Havertz is better than Muller on the some aspects on the field. Both players know how to run into tight spaces and get the better of the opposition defenders.

But the Arsenal star still has a lot to prove before being placed on the same podium as the German legend. He is going in the right direction and can make a statement by firing goals consistently.

Gabriel Jesus’s injuries and Eddie Nketiah’s loan move to Crystal Palace put the majority of the responsibilities on Havertz’s shoulders.

Can he finally help Arteta’s side to lift the PL title for the first time since 2003-04? What if he gets injured? Are the Gooners prepared to handle that situation?

Surely Sterling and Trossard can fit into his place, but they need to keep the momentum going. That’s something only the German ace has been able to provide this season.
