Arsenal favorites to land Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal appear to be the favorites in the race to sign highly-rated striker Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig forward is also on the radar of Premier League clubs Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle. With Arsenal reportedly seeking a new out-and-out striker to lead the line, Sesko fits the profile of an elite forward.

The Slovenia international possesses a good first touch and is a competent dribbler. His main strength is his ability to put the ball in the back of the net, with attributes that perfectly complement that skill. Sesko is excellent at making runs into the box, and his good pace makes it difficult for defenders to catch up to him. His ability to finish well with both feet makes him a deadly striker. Standing at 6ft 5in, his physicality adds an extra dimension to the attack, making him a well-rounded forward.

Sesko joined RB Leipzig last summer from RB Salzburg for a fee believed to be £20 million. While he took some time to adjust to Germany, he finished the season scoring 14 goals in the Bundesliga, including a streak in which he scored in seven consecutive games.

What makes him even more impressive is the way he scored. He significantly overperformed his Expected Goals (xG), scoring 14 goals from a cumulative xG of just 7.7. He also proved that he can score from various positions. With an average goal-scoring distance of 13 yards, he is more than just a poacher.

The striker has a release clause of £55 million, and multiple clubs have reportedly enquired about the Slovenian, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg. “There are concrete enquiries and offers for him. We can confirm Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal have all enquired and started first talks,” the journalist said.

“RB Leipzig is doing everything to convince him to stay… Sesko is totally focused on the Euros. We think there will be a decision in the next two or three weeks or after the Euros,” he added.

Sesko would undoubtedly be a good fit for the Gunners. While Mikel Arteta would love the striker to join their ranks, they face tough competition for the 21-year-old star.
