Arsenal are looking for new faces to be added in the squad of Mikel Arteta with the name of Jerome Boateng coming up strong. The German defender has been viewed as a short term replacement by Mikel Arteta and his team.
The Arsenal board, however, are concerned that the transfer may not turn out to be a disaster like last season January signing of Denis Suarez.
Arsenal chiefs have expressed their views on a proposed signing of Jerome Boateng with the fears of Denis Suarez revolving over their head. The Bayern Munich defender has been linked with Arsenal for a sum of £12.8 million.
The Gunners board are only vying loan signings this month and are leaving the big names for the summer. Jerome Boateng is viewed as a short-term replacement for Calum Chambers, who will be out of action to a season-long injury.
But, according to Goal, the board of Arsenal is concerned over the future of Boateng, though short, because of his inconsistent fitness and lack of game time, off late. The 31-year-old has found it tough to get going in the capital of Germany.
The defender has made only 15 appearance over this season and is feared to be another Suarez-esque signing. The Spanish winger arrived with high hopes but exited without glory as he failed to sign a permanent deal with Arsenal.
Boateng, however, is not seen for a long term but only as a short term substitute of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, who will be bid heavily by Arsenal in the summer.
Mikel Arteta when asked about new signings responded: ”We don’t talk about any transfers and we are working on a few things. When the club has something to say I will let you know.”
It surely is going to be a busy window for Arsenal with players like Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah to be offloaded in light of game time and a few short-term targets being met to keep the season
