Arsenal and Chelsea are eyeing 18-year-old Brazilian sensation William Gomes, with both clubs preparing to vie for his transfer from Sao Paulo.
Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are set to enter a transfer battle for highly-rated Sao Paulo winger William Gomes ahead of a potential move. The 18-year-old has been on the London clubs’ radar for quite some time now, and reports from Caught Offside suggest the clubs are willing to to submit official bids in the near future.
Able to play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder depending on the team’s needs, Gomes has shown why he is a top target for European clubs with his performances in recent months. Predominantly left-footed, the Brazilian’s technical ability as well as desire to play swift, attacking football would make him a good fit for Arsenal or Chelsea.
With the former focussing on adding missing pieces to their already-decent squad and the latter recruiting top young talent from all over the world, a move for William Gomes from either team will not come as a surprise.

Arsenal and Chelsea have been two of the Premier League’s top clubs for a long time now. Apart from their performances on the pitch, the two London clubs are big players in the transfer market and are always involved in the scouting of top talent worldwide.
The Gunners, managed by Mikel Arteta, play a possession dominant game focussing on overloads and fluid movement between players. Wingers and creative midfielders are key to breaking the opponent down in this setup, which would provide Gomes ample opportunities to display his pedigree with the ball. Having already signed and developed Gabriel Martinelli in a similar fashion, Gomes will have a blue print to follow should he join.

As for the Blues, they have chosen to recruit top talent in such numbers that they can field three strong starting XIs. Coached by Enzo Maresca – another of Pep Guardiola’s students – the team focuses on quick attacks with great importance for creative players. While William Gomes would fit their system as well, getting playing time would be a challenge with so many other players in the pecking order alongside him.
What the player chooses for his future remains to be seen.
