Arsenal monitoring highly rated striker Victor Gyokeres

Arsenal are said to be closely monitoring highly-rated striker Victor Gyokeres. The 26-year-old currently plays for Sporting Clube de Portugal but has been heavily linked with a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs following a fantastic season. Gyokeres scored a staggering 43 goals in 50 games for Sporting across all competitions. This stellar goal-scoring record has led to strong links with Manchester United as well.

Mikel Arteta has been in search of a striker this summer, and the Gunners have been linked with several players. Benjamin Sesko was initially earmarked as the primary target, but the Slovenian signed a new contract with RB Leipzig. Arsenal still maintain links with Joshua Zirkzee and Victor Osimhen, but a deal for either of them looks unlikely at this stage.

Gyokeres’s style of play perfectly fits the profile Arteta is seeking. The Sweden international possesses a good first touch and is an exceptional finisher. His physical attributes make him even more formidable. With pace and good off-the-ball movement, he is an excellent target for through balls and counter-attacks. Additionally, Gyokeres is very strong physically, which allows him to hold the ball up and assist in the build-up play.

The Swedish star also has experience playing in England. He has had stints with Brighton and Hove Albion, Swansea City, and Coventry City. Gyokeres was especially prolific with Coventry, scoring 38 goals in the Championship over two seasons.

However, like any elite striker, Gyokeres won’t come cheap. Having signed for Sporting only a year ago, he still has four years left on his contract, allowing Sporting to command a high transfer fee. Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offer £76 million, which could rise to £101 million with add-ons. Additionally, there are reports of an £85 million release clause in Gyokeres’ contract, a figure which the Gunners are believed to be able to afford.

While Gyokeres would be an expensive acquisition, he would undoubtedly strengthen the team and enhance their already potent attack. His goals could be the decisive factor in the Premier League title race next season.
