As per journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal are plotting a summer move for Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon to address their left-wing issues next season.
The Gunners are expected to have an interesting transfer window, and manager Mikel Arteta has already stated that it will be an important summer for them.
Arsenal transfer targets for upcoming summer
As per sources, they could eye a wide attacker, striker and a defensive midfielder after witnessing shortcomings in their squad depth. Although they have fared really well in the UEFA Champions League, the English giants are on course to finish as runners-up for their third consecutive season in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta wants to make sure that the club succeeds next year, and the club has already started their work off the field.
For the left-wing position, they have made Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams their top priority. However, the 22-year-old previously revealed that he is committed to his club and hasn’t made any plans for the future.
German stars Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane are also soft targets, and they are yet to open talks with them. Hence, they have shifted their focus to English winger Gordon, who is their second Magpies target after Alexander Isak.
Ornstein backs Anthony Gordon to Arsenal
Yet Ornstein stated that until and unless there are no developments in this move, we can’t expect anything serious. In a Q&A session, the journalist said:
“A wide attacker has been on the agenda for some time and I do hear left-winger is a position they are considering this summer. We all know Nico Williams is a player Mikel Arteta admires, but that doesn’t mean it will happen.”
“There will be many names in the frame; for example, Arsenal are one of multiple top clubs who like Anthony Gordon. But, again, it doesn’t mean much unless something develops and we have no indications of that yet.”

The 24yo ace has had a quiet season compared to last; still, he has managed to score six goals and provide five assists in 27 Premier League games this term.
He might appear as an upgrade to Arsenal’s current options; there will be questions asked about the impact of this deal. Mikel Arteta’s team should go after Williams on a priority basis, as he can instantly uplift their attacking unit.
Newcastle are not under any pressure to sell their left winger, as the player signed a new contract last October. Plus, it is really difficult to see them cash in on both Isak and Gordon in the same transfer window.

In our opinion, they should go after star forward Isak or risk losing both players. Targeting another wide attacker might give them more flexibility and increase their chances of landing the best players.
