Arsenal preparing a huge bid for Napoli star

Arsenal are reportedly preparing a large bid for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as their search for a top-tier forward intensifies. Following unsuccessful pursuits of Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee, Mikel Arteta seems to have set his sights on the 25-year-old Nigerian.

Journalist Ciro Venerato has reported that Arsenal will be launching a bid for Osimhen soon. “Arsenal will make an attempt with Napoli in the next few days after many rumours,” stated Venerato. “The North London club pursued Sesko, who opted to remain at Leipzig.

Osimhen’s professional journey began at the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2017, he moved to Europe to play for Wolfsburg in Germany. However, his time there proved challenging, with only three starts in two seasons. A loan spell to Belgian club Charleroi followed, where Osimhen impressed, scoring 12 goals in 25 games.

This successful loan convinced Lille to sign him for £10 million. After a fruitful first season in France with 13 goals, Napoli broke their transfer record to acquire Osimhen for a staggering £70 million. The Nigerian international has adapted well to Serie A, scoring 65 goals in his four seasons there. The forward has also represented Nigeria on 35 occasions, scoring 21 goals for them.

Osimhen has previously expressed his desire to play in the Premier League, making a move to North London particularly appealing. However, acquiring him won’t be cheap with a £110 million release clause in his contract. Despite the release clause, Napoli are said to be open to negotiating a lower transfer figure of around £85 million.

However, Arsenal aren’t the only team interested in the 25-year-old, with Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain also showing interest in Osimhen. The Nigerian possesses explosive pace, and strong aerial ability and has proven to be a clinical finisher. As the Gunners looks to convert their recent progress into trophies, Osimhen could be the missing piece for Arteta.
