Arsenal’s interest in Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak is said to have a new twist, as it was reported by the Metro. The Swedish international forward is said to be favouring a move to the Catalan giants Barcelona, in the summer.
Alexander Isak, the young center-forward, was highly reported to have attracted the interest of Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta during the winter transfer window. The manager was keen to add a young experience clinical finisher to his rank, considering Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s decline in front of goal, coupled with his eventual exit after four years of association with the club. Aubameyang signed for Arsenal, for a then-club-record fee reported to be £56 million and scored 92 goals in 163 appearances.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit and an unfortunate loss in the pursuit of former Fiorentina’s star forward Vlahovic to Juventus, the interest in Alexander Isak became more of a necessity. Despite his ridiculous £75million release clause, the 22-yrs-old’s move to the North London side has continuously been said to be on the card to fill the void left by Aubameyang, and with the potential departure of either or both Alexander Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah who are due to leave the club at the end of this season, considering the expiration of their contract.
Several attempts to extend their contract had been futile leading to a potential shortage upfront in the coming season. According to the latest revelation from Metro about Isak’s admiration of Barcelona and willingness to wait for Barcelona’s final decision before opening the negotiation with Arsenal, this might force the club to change their transfer target in order to avoid another Vlahovic saga.
