Arsenal are eyeing Feyenoord’s dynamic midfielder Quinten Timber as a potential transfer target, hoping to leverage his expiring contract to secure a cut-price deal.

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber as they look to explore options to bolster their squad in the upcoming months. Premier League rivals Liverpool are also reportedly interested in the player, who now has just 18 months left on his existing deal.

While the Dutch side were initially holding out for a fee in the region of €60 million, Timber’s contract expiry date nearing could mean they will lower their price. To that tune, the Gunners and the Reds are hoping they can convince the Eredivisie side to accept a fee as low as €30 million.

The Gunners have already signed Quinten’s older brother Jurrien from Ajax in July 2023 for a reported €45 million fee. This could help them in negotiations with the former as he would possibly want to join forces with his brother in the Premier League.

However, making Feyenoord budge from their asking price will not be easy.

Born in 2001, Quinten Timber came through the ranks at Ajax’s famed youth academy between 2014-18, before being promoted to Jong Ajax that year. He spent three years with the team before making the move to FC Utrecht in May 2021 on a three-year deal.

However, Timber’s performances were so impressive that Feyenoord splashed the cash to sign him the following year in July 2022. The €8.5 million fee Feyenoord paid Utrecht was also the latter’s biggest-ever sale in their footballing history.

Since joining in 2022, Timber has been a regular in Feyenoord’s first team. He has made 91 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing 15 assists as well. Seeing that despite being a defensive-minded midfielder, the player seems to have a lot of goals in his game. This will undoubtedly tempt Arsenal after they have struggled to score a lot of goals this season.

However, convincing the Dutch side to accept a smaller fee due to his contract situation will be challenge for the north Londoners.
