Arsenal are desperate to keep their title ambitions afloat and are in the market for attacking reinforcements this month. As per reports from Brazilian journalist Eduardo Burgos, the Gunners are considering Botafogo’s Igor Jesus as an option. The 23-year-old is reportedly valued at around £30 million by his current club, who would be willing to listen to offers for him.
Manager Mikel Arteta is going through a serious injury crisis at Arsenal that has left their attacking reserves depleted. It began with a hamstring injury to Bukayo Saka, followed by an unknown injury to Ethan Nwaneri. Recently, Gabriel Jesus was ruled out for the remainder of the season after picking up an ACL injury, forcing the Gunners to enter the market.
They currently sit six points adrift of Liverpool in second place, having played a game more than the Reds. However, there are still 15-16 matches left to play and the club is retaining hopes of doing the improbable. But for that to happen, they will desperately need to onboard some new players before the January window slams shut.
Burgos confirms Arsenal interest in Igor Jesus
Aforementioned journalist Eduardo Burgos took to X to claim that his client Igor Jesus is now on Arsenal’s radar. Commenting under journalist Ben Jacobs’ post, Burgos said – “Arsenal enter the race for Igor Jesus. The Gunners have kept their eye on the striker throughout the season. Informal chats, nothing more. He is the alternative to other profiles such as Benjamin Sesko or Evan Ferguson.”
The 23-year-old has been a great performer for his clubs in recent times. He had a great campaign for Shabab Al-Ahli Club as well as Botafogo last season, scoring 25 goals and providing nine assists as well in 56 appearances across competitions. With age on his side, the next couple of years will be crucial should Jesus wish for a big move to Europe.
