Arsenal ready €80 million bid to land striking target

Viktor-Gyokeres-Arsenal

Arsenal are preparing to go big this summer — and at the top of their shopping list sits Viktor Gyokeres. According to a report from Fichajes, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are ready to spend close to €80 million to sign the prolific Sporting CP forward as they seek to finally solve their long-standing centre-forward dilemma.

Gyokeres: From Championship standout to European powerhouse

Few players in Europe have elevated their status over the past two seasons like Viktor Gyokeres.

Since moving from Coventry City to Sporting CP in 2023, the Swedish international has taken his game to astronomical heights. After a phenomenal debut campaign where he was involved in 58 goals, Gyokeres has already eclipsed that tally this season — boasting 48 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, with matches still to play.

His ability to consistently rack up goals and assists has made Europe’s elite sit up and take notice. A physically dominant forward with electric acceleration, intelligent movement, and an impressive ability to link up play, Gyokeres looks ready-made for Premier League football.

And Arsenal are moving quickly to secure his signature.

Despite their progress under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have struggled to find a consistent goal-scoring striker to lead the line. Gabriel Jesus, while brilliant in buildup phases, has failed to deliver the volume of goals needed, and Eddie Nketiah has not convinced as a long-term solution.

In critical matches, the Gunners’ lack of a clinical finisher has been glaring.

Arteta has been clear behind the scenes: a true world-class striker must arrive this summer if Arsenal are to bridge the final gap to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Gyokeres fits the bill — and not just for his goalscoring. His physical profile offers something Arsenal’s attack currently lacks: a player capable of occupying centre-backs, winning duels, and creating space for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard to thrive.

Sporting braced for a massive offer

Sporting CP are resigned to losing their prized asset this summer. With interest mounting from across Europe, including Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid, the Portuguese giants are keen to maximise his sale.

Reports suggest they will demand around €80 million, which Arsenal are reportedly ready to meet. It would represent a significant investment, but one that could unlock Arsenal’s full attacking potential for the 2025/26 season and beyond.

Gyokeres himself is understood to be open to a move to North London, viewing Arsenal as the perfect next step in his career trajectory.

The missing piece for Arsenal’s title dream?

In many ways, Gyokeres could be the final piece of Mikel Arteta’s tactical jigsaw.

A frontline of Saka, Gyokeres, and Martinelli — backed by Ødegaard pulling the strings — would give Arsenal a devastating edge in attack, capable of overwhelming the best defences in Europe.

With Champions League ambitions growing and the Premier League title race becoming increasingly ruthless, Arsenal cannot afford another summer of hesitation.

If they believe Gyokeres is the man — and all signs suggest they do — then €80 million could soon feel like a bargain.
