Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard was touted to become a future superstar by Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2015 when the duo played together for Real Madrid.
Odegaard has been lighting it up in the Premier League this season. A case can be made for the Norwegian being the best midfielder in the English top flight this season and he has been the main man behind Arsenal’s success.
The 24-year-old was appointed the captain of Arsenal ahead of this campaign and he has taken to it like fish to water. Martin Odegaard seems to be leading from the front with his performances on the pitch and is turning out to be a very special player for the Gunners.
In 22 games for Arsenal this season across all competitions, Odegaard has scored seven times and provided five assists. The Norwegian controls the game from midfield and is central to everything good that Mikel Arteta’s side does.
Odegaard joined Arsenal last summer permanently after a rather bewildering time at Real Madrid. The 24-year-old impressed on loan at Emirates and the Gunners did not hesitate to pay the money and sign the Norwegian permanently.
It is a decision that has really paid off for Arteta & co. They will be hoping that he can continue his form for many seasons to come and help lead Arsenal back to their glory days.
One player who predicted Odegaard’s success all those years back was Cristiano Ronaldo. Speaking to BT Sport, the Al Nassr superstar said, “I will mention Martin Odegaard of Madrid for example, at 16 he’s still young but you can see he’s a very good player. He’s a great player, I think he’s a young boy, he can still grow. He has a good future ahead. We must give him time to learn, to take his best decisions. But I see a lot of potential in the player, he has got a good left foot.”
Arsenal are well on course to win the Premier League this season. If they manage to do so come the end of the campaign, Odegaard without an iota of doubt will be the player of the season for the Gunners. Let’s hope the 24-year-old can continue leading us to many more trophies.
