Arsenal could be at the risk of losing one of their key players in Thomas Partey after failing to agree terms for a new deal with the player’s camp.
The Gunners could lose Thomas Partey on a free transfer, considering the player’s contract expires at the end of the season. This means he will also be eligible to negotiate a deal elsewhere starting from January 1 as he enters the final six months of his contract.
Despite the Ghanaian’s consistent performances when fit this season, it seems Arsenal are taking their own sweet time in getting his new deal over the line. Reports from earlier in the season suggested that the club were willing to offer Partey a two-year extension on his existing deal. Yet, there seems to be no movement along those lines despite the Gunners not having enough depth to deal with his departure.
With Jorginho and Declan Rice the only other players at the club who can play the lone six role to some extent, the club will have to move quickly if they are to secure Partey’s future.
An overview of Thomas Partey time with Arsenal so far
Thomas Partey’s arrival at Arsenal in 2020 sent a wave of happiness through the fanbase as the club activated his £45 million release clause to purchase him from Atletico Madrid. He quickly adapted to the conditions and the demands of football in England and became a key member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
A tall, strong and aggressive midfielder, Partey is good both on and off the ball. With the ball at his feet, he can pick out a short or long pass with the same ease and accuracy, and also packs a thunderous strike that he unleashes every now and then. Without the ball, the player has also been nicknamed the ‘Octopus’ due to his ability to cover distances and cut passing lanes in any direction with his long legs.
