Arsenal have been recently linked with move for Newcastle United’s defender Fabian Schar, but it’s not the first time the Gunners have expressed an interest in Swiss defender. Fabian Schar has been close to a move to Arsenal in the past, when he caught eyes of scouts from North London playing for Basel. That was until a certain Mohammed Elneny stole the limelight however.
Elneny told DMC Sports: “All of us at Basel knew that Schar was linked with Arsenal and at every season’s end.
“We congratulated him as the move was close to completion, according to Schar himself.
“My agent told me that Arsenal officials came many times to watch Schar but they were impressed every time by my performances and development and they went on to sign me instead.”
Arsenal eventually signed Mohamed Elneny on 14th January 2016, for an undisclosed fee reported to be somewhere between £5 million and £7.4 million.
They can also lay their hands on long term target Fabian Schar in the summer with reports linking him to North-London.
