Arsenal are set to step up their pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres, with a new and improved bid expected at the start of next week, sources confirm.
The Gunners have made the Sporting CP striker their top priority heading into the summer transfer window and are now edging closer to a deal. After ongoing discussions, Arsenal’s next offer will reportedly move closer to Sporting’s valuation, while still staying below the €70 million mark.
Negotiations between the clubs have been described as “positive,” with existing relationships between key parties helping smooth over some of the earlier obstacles.
Gyokeres wants Arsenal move
Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres did take a dramatic turn, given how Gyokeres is “very unhappy” after Sporting CP reneged on a gentleman’s agreement that could have paved the way for his summer exit.
But more importantly, Gyökeres himself has made his intentions clear. The 26-year-old Swedish international has informed his representatives that his preferred destination is Arsenal, and he’s eager to play under Mikel Arteta next season.
Gyökeres has enjoyed a sensational campaign in Portugal, registering over 50 goal contributions in all competitions and emerging as one of Europe’s most sought-after centre-forwards. With Manchester United also circling, Arsenal’s early groundwork and strong proposal could prove decisive.

Where do Sporting stand on the fee?
Sporting are holding firm on a valuation close to €80–85 million, a figure rooted in the player’s release clause. However, Arsenal’s new bid—likely in the €65–70 million range may find traction given the player’s stance and the strength of relationships in play.
It’s now a matter of how much Sporting are willing to compromise and whether Arsenal will need to make room for performance-based add-ons or creative structuring to get a deal across the line.
