Arsenal are among a group of several Premier League clubs that are being linked with a move to bring Antonio Rudiger back to English football this summer.
The 33-year-old is quickly approaching the end of his contract at Real Madrid and could leave the Spanish giants as a free agent before next season gets underway. Rudiger has been away from the Premier League since he swapped Chelsea for the Spanish capital back in 2022, but that could soon be about to change if he wants to explore a fresh challenge this summer.
Arsenal have big plans for the summer transfer window, and Rudiger could yet form a key part of them amid the latest update on his situation from Madrid.
However, the race to secure his signature still appears to be hanging in the balance, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing last weekend that it is still a “50/50 situation” as to whether he will leave Real Madrid. The German could yet have a new contract put on the table for him by the club hierarchy, while he and his agent are sure to be fielding plenty of calls from elsewhere as well.
Arsenal well-placed to land Antonio Rudiger
If Rudiger does leave the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, then Arsenal are well-placed to land him, in the eyes of one of the UK’s leading bookmakers. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently priced at odds of 5/1 to be Rudiger’s club next season, with only Tottenham and Real Madrid currently seen as more likely options.
Liverpool and both Manchester clubs could also be in the frame for the veteran, while Juventus are viewing him as a potential option. Rudiger is a player who is sure to command plenty of interest this summer due to the reputation that he carries within the game, and there will be no shortage of potential suitors for him.
Tottenham chances diminish amid relegation battle
Football Insider recently revealed that Tottenham would love to add Rudiger’s experience to their backline for next term, but any chances of them securing a deal for him surely hinge on their survival fight. The Lilywhites would be unable to tempt the defender to join if they are a Championship club next season, and even if they beat the drop, they will have no European football to offer.
As a result, Arsenal could soon become the favourites in the Premier League to secure Rudiger’s signature, as they work to provide even greater depth for their centre-back group. Tottenham’s struggles this season have severely damaged their appeal to top-level talent like Rudiger.
Arsenal could emerge as Premier League favourites
Rudiger’s previous spell in England saw him spend time in West London with Chelsea, but this time around, he could be set to move to the north of the capital. His experience and winning mentality would provide valuable depth to Arsenal’s defensive options as they compete across multiple competitions.
The 33-year-old remains a quality defender despite his age. His physicality, aerial ability and leadership qualities make him an attractive proposition for clubs looking to strengthen their backline. Arsenal’s status as Premier League title contenders and their participation in the Champions League give them a significant advantage over most rivals in the race for his signature during the summer transfer window.
