Arsenal have been pushing to sign Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera this summer. A €15m bid was already made and rejected. Valencia want €20m. Now reports in Spain claim the Gunners aren’t willing to go higher. Seriously? We’re hesitating over €5m (via. Spanish outlet Deporte Valenciano ) for a 21-year-old centre-back who just won Olympic gold with Spain? Let’s break this down…
At 6’2” and with a strong frame, Mosquera already looks physically ready for Premier League football. But it’s his intelligence, timing in tackles, and ability to play in a high defensive line that have made him one of the most promising defenders in Spain.
Arsenal’s interest is logical. With Jakub Kiwior’s future uncertain and Takehiro Tomiyasu already bidding adieu to the Gunners, Mikel Arteta needs another left-sided defender who can operate in both central and wide areas of a back four. Mosquera, though primarily a centre-back, has played as a wide centre-half in a back three and is comfortable progressing the ball exactly the kind of profile Arsenal typically look for.
In a team that builds from the back and demands technical quality from its defenders, the Valencia talent ticks all the right boxes.
Mosquera is exactly the kind of defender Arsenal need
We’ve been screaming about squad depth. Not just bodies, quality. Mosquera has been a regular for Valencia, nearly 100 appearances at just 21. He’s composed, physical, smart in possession, and already looks like a future elite-level CB.
This is the kind of signing we always wish we made before the price blew up. €20m for a player like this? That’s not even market inflation anymore… that’s a bargain.
This deal makes sense now and not next summer
Waiting for him to develop more and get called up regularly for Spain will only double that price. We saw it with Saliba. Buy early, build properly, and you’ve got an asset worth triple in two years.
Let’s not forget, Mosquera’s keen on joining Arsenal. He wants this move. We’re offering Champions League football, a top manager, and a serious project. If we’re not the right step forward for him, who is?
Author Opinion
This isn’t a guy we walk away from over €5 million. Not in this market. Not when every club in Europe is watching him. And not when we’ve been this close to getting him in the door.
If Arsenal want to take that next step and compete every single week, in every competition, we need more Mosqueras.
Don’t overthink it. Close the deal.
