Arsenal are all-in for the January transfer market as the search for a winger to replace recently injured Bukayo Saka goes on, with several names appearing on the list with the Gunners looking at options to try and sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in Serie A.
Having had spells with multiple English clubs such as Charlton Athletic, Leicester City, Everton and Fulham, the Nigerian winger has finally broken onto the world stage with Atalanta. He has netted an impressive 44 goals and also provided 23 assists in just 98 games for the Italian side, putting him directly in the sights of multiple top European clubs.
One of those clubs is Arsenal, whose need for a winger has gone up exponentially this week, with Saka and Raheem Sterling both set to miss several weeks of action. Their attacking depth has come under tough scrutiny in the past, with many deeming their roster too small to maintain their form throughout the season.
Would Ademola Lookman be tempted by a move to Arsenal?
Having come through the ranks with Charlton’s youth academy, Lookman had stints with Everton, Fulham and then Leicester City, but was unable to establish himself in the English game in the early days. He finally left RB Leipzig in 2022 to seek a new challenge and was purchased by Atalanta for a reported fee of €15 million.
Having failed to really prove himself at any of the aforementioned English clubs, Lookman will have the desire to play in the so-called best league in the world with the form he is in currently.
The 27-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in just 20 appearances across competitions. He can play in any of the three positions across the front line and would be a real asset for Arteta should they sign him.
However, Atalanta will likely hold out for a huge fee owing to the player’s form since joining the club.
