English defender Carl Jenkinson has fired a warning message to rivals Tottenham Hotspur and stated that Arsenal will be heading into the North London derby with a massive amount of confidence.
The last few weeks in the Premier League have seen Tottenham’s title race collapse after back to back defeats against Burnley and Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino’s side had a 10 point gap ahead of Arsenal only five days ago but the Gunners have succumbed that cushion to only 4.
And with the North London derby coming up on Saturday, an Arsenal win could create just a single point of difference between the two sides that are still fighting for a top 4 berth now. However, a Spurs win could swell the gap back to seven points and cause a dent in Arsenal’s hope for Champions League football next term.
But Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson, who is in line to start against Spurs at Wembley has insisted that Unai Emery’s squad are brimming with confidence in anticipation of this crunch game. Jenkinson spoke to news outlet Islington Gazette and said that the Arsenal stars are just looking to show the world their abilities, “We just keep building. In the last few games, in particular, we’ve played some really good stuff. We’re looking like a very strong side, which we are. We’ve got a lot of really talented players and we want to show that we can do well at the minute. Of course, we’ve got a tough game coming up but we’re going into it with a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence.”
The 27-year-old also explained that the results in the last few games of the season will be crucial as consistency needs to be found, “Towards the end of the season is a very critical time because the competitions are coming to an end and it’s about being consistent to get the results. I think we’re doing that really well at the minute but we’ve got some big games coming up. It’s a very important time for us but as players, we all know that.”
Arsenal has won their last three games in all competitions and will be hoping to continue that run against their fierce local rivals again this weekend.
