Arsenal exploring move for out-of-favour Chelsea striker

Armando-Broja-Arsenal

Eddie Nketiah is not going to be an Arsenal player for much longer with the Gunners giving their greenlight to a €30m obligatory loan deal that would see the English youngster join Olympique Marseille. The 24-year-old should have been valued much higher in today’s transfer market but the club don’t seem to think so.

The 1999-born striker has been a great servant to Arsenal during Mikel Arteta’s time in charge of the club. The Spanish tactician has used Nketiah extensively when Gabriel Jesus wasn’t available and the young striker has constantly chipped in with goals for the club. He has a natural instinct of knowing where the back of the net is.

With Nketiah set to be sold, Arsenal might be looking at replacements to bring in for the striker position. One would have imagined that the Gunners wanted a high-profile striker to replace Jesus up top which is why they let the 25-year-old Englishman leave. After all, if there is one thing Arteta’s team lacks, it is a 25-goal-a-season striker.

However, it has now emerged that Arsenal are sounding out a move for Chelsea forward Armando Broja, who finds himself out of favour at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners’ recruitment team are studying the Albanian’s numbers and profile but also want to know how much the Blues want to sell him.

Going from Nketiah to Broja would be a downgrade. Make no mistake, the Albanian international is definitely a talented player and looked like an exciting prospect a couple of seasons ago. However, the 22-year-old has not been the same since his injury and his confidence is at an all-time low.

Nketiah might not have been the most well-rounded striker there is but he had an innate ability to score goals. This is something that cannot be taught and has to come on its own. At the senior level, Broja has yet to show that killer instinct of finding the back of the net at will without losing confidence.

The Chelsea forward’s attacking movement has always been impressive and he always finds himself at the right place in the box. However, Nketiah was good at this too and we are not sure what kind of upgrade Arsenal think it will be to sell the Englishman and sign the Albanian this summer.

Considering how Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal play, they could go into the new season without making another signing. Kai Havertz and Jesus are very good in the number nine role and even Trossard has played there in the past. However, if the Gunners decide to dip in the market, it would need to be for someone who is much better than Nketiah. Broja isn’t the answer but let’s see what the club’s recruitment team thinks about it.
