[Cristiano Ronaldo to Arsenal?] One of Cristiano Ronaldo’s agents, Ricardo Regufe, recently revealed that the Portuguese superstar could make one final appearance in European football before he calls time on his sensational career. Speaking to the media, Regufe pointed out Arsenal’s injury crisis and Ronaldo’s short term availability – hinting at a short-term fix for both parties. He said,
“Arsenal have some injury problems right now, if they pick up the phone I would definitely recommend a short term deal until May for him in London. Wouldn’t it be great, he gets to show the world he is still Ronaldo and Arsenal get a top talent they need?”
Ronaldo was famously revealed to have been ‘one that got away’ by legendary Gunners manager Arsene Wenger in 2003, when he was just a teenager coming up at Sporting CP. Wenger revealed he had a deal in place but Manchester United swooped in and paid more money to land their target ahead of Arsenal back then.
Now, 22 years down the line, the north Londoners could finally get their man, albeit for somewhat of a showcase stint to end his career.
Will Mikel Arteta green-light a move for Ronaldo?
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been categorical in his dealings with big egos in the dressing room, as famously seen through his long-drawn and public saga with former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Spaniard sacked the Gabonese striker after a series of actions that showed indiscipline, and even stripped him off captaincy. Auba eventually departed after terminating his deal with the club.
Now, with another massive ego in Ronaldo being linked with the club, Arteta will surely have a say. The rest of the squad is just about beginning their life in professional football, while the veteran is 39 already, and has seen nearly everything there is to see in the sport.
