Arsenal are linked with a move for Chelsea defender David Luiz and the deal seems to be close or maybe even over the line.
The 32-year-old appeared to have trained away from Chelsea squad on Wednesday, and Unai Emery’s objective to sign a big name defender seems completed – in fact on a bargain at only £8 million.
Unai Emery spoke with Sky Sports News about his wants to sign a centre-back before Thursday’s deadline.
“If we can on the last day, we will try to sign another centre-back, but one who has the capacity to help us,” said Emery.
“We have a lot of defensive players. Maybe, it is different when Laurent Koscielny tells us he wanted to leave.
“We tried to sign some important, expensive players for our defence. But when we can’t do that, the second line players don’t really convince us to sign them.”
Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill highlighted that the move is already done with the Brazilian signing two years deal at the Emirates Stadium.
He said: “David Luiz is about to become and Arsenal player – and it’s after a change in his circumstances. It’s only in May that Luiz signed a two-year deal after a great season under Maurizio Sarri.
“Even a few weeks ago he was talking about enjoying life under Frank Lampard. But it’s been made clear that he’s not certain to be a regular starter under Lampard – he’s perhaps not even going to third or fourth choice.”
