Arsenal are edging closer to completing the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, with ESPN’s @JamesOlley reporting that the final touches are now being put on the deal with Sporting CP.
The move has dragged longer than anyone at London Colney would’ve liked, but the feeling inside the club remains calm. Both sides have maintained consistent dialogue over the past few days, and Arsenal are confident of landing the Swedish striker imminently.
Arsenal finalising Gyokeres deal with Sporting
According to ESPN sources, negotiations are now in the final stage. While initial delays were linked to disagreements over payment structure and add-ons, those hurdles have now been addressed. Arsenal have long had an agreement with Gyokeres on personal terms and have been waiting on Sporting to greenlight the transfer.
The final fee is expected to land in the region of €73.5 million fixed, with potential bonuses pushing it closer to €80 million, still below the original release clause but high enough to get the deal over the line.
Why Arsenal pushed hard for Gyokeres
Mikel Arteta has made it clear that signing a top-level striker was a priority heading into this summer. Gyokeres offers a different dynamic from what Arsenal already have powerful ball-carrying, elite pressing, and a consistent goal threat who thrives attacking the left channel. His profile is tailor-made to complement the existing front line.
With Kai Havertz able to drop deeper or shift wide, Gyokeres’ arrival will give Arsenal a more natural penalty-box presence. It’s exactly the kind of evolution Arteta’s attack needed heading into another intense Premier League and Champions League campaign.
Announcement expected soon
Arsenal fans have grown restless watching other moves get confirmed, especially after Noni Madueke’s unveiling. But with pre-season now underway in Asia and Gyokeres still not announced, pressure has mounted on the club to seal things quickly.
Barring any last-minute hiccups, Gyokeres is expected to undergo his medical in the coming days, with an official announcement likely before the end of the week. Arsenal may have taken their time, but they’re now closing in on the striker they believe can fire them to silverware.
