Arsenal face a transfer standoff with Stuttgart over Fabio Vieira, with the Bundesliga side refusing to meet the Gunners’ £25 million valuation. Stuttgart have made it clear they are only prepared to pay a maximum of £17 million including add-ons, and are ready to move to alternative targets if talks do not progress.

The German side have been in contact with Arsenal about a possible move, but negotiations have stalled over the fee. Stuttgart’s sporting directors are determined to keep the deal within their financial framework, and sources suggest they will not go beyond £17 million under any circumstances. Arsenal, however, are still hoping to secure a package closer to £25 million, citing the Portuguese midfielder’s age, technical profile and contract status.

Vieira has struggled to establish himself in Mikel Arteta’s first team since arriving from Porto in 2022. Despite flashes of quality, he has not been able to secure a consistent role in the side, and with new additions this summer, his opportunities could be even more limited. Arsenal’s willingness to sanction an exit is clear, but the size of the fee remains the sticking point.

With the transfer window moving quickly, Stuttgart have started exploring other creative midfield options as backup plans. If Arsenal remain firm at £25 million, they risk losing a buyer and being left with a player unlikely to feature heavily this season. While Stuttgart admire Vieira’s creativity and versatility, they are not prepared to overpay.

The next few days will be decisive. Arsenal must decide whether to lower their demands or stand firm and risk talks collapsing. For Vieira, a move to Germany could provide the regular football he needs to reignite his career – but only if both clubs can find common ground.
