Arsenal made a statement when they brought in Gabriel Martinelli and Brazilian wonder-kid has enjoyed a successful start to life at the Emirates Stadium. He made his competitive Arsenal debut coming on as a late substitute in the Premier League opener against Newcastle United.
Martinelli stands one behind top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – becoming the club’s second-highest scorer in all competition this season with seven goals. The 18-year-old notched a double in a ten-goal Carabao Cup penalty defeat to Liverpool.
With seven goals in an Arsenal shirt in just over 400 minutes of football, Martinelli match Ronaldo Phenomenon’s record – a record that has not been beaten by any other Brazilian in his debut minutes in the top European leagues. He puts himself above the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Ronaldinho and Neymar
Not only he matched Ronaldo Phenomenon’s record of scoring seven goals in just 400 minutes of football by any Brazilian player but also equalled club legend Ian Wright’s record of scoring on each of his first four starts for the Gunners.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Martinelli would continue his exceptional form in the long run, and if he does so – I’m sorry, But Thierry Henry your record is not far away. 😛
