Girona will look to end a rather forgettable UEFA Champions League campaign on a high with their eighth and final group stage game against Arsenal scheduled to take place at the Estadio Montilivi on Wednesday, January 29.
In seven games so far, Girona have managed just one win so far, a 2-0 win against Slovan Bratislava in Round 3 of the matches. Their other six matches have all ended in defeat, with the club losing to PSG, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, Sturm Graz, Liverpool and AC Milan.
Apart from the UCL, Girona have also underperformed heavily in LaLiga. Having finished a respectable third with an impressive 81 points last season, they have managed just 28 points from 21 games so far.
Now, with just their pride left to play for, manager Michel will look to end the season well with as many wins as possible.
Possible Girona XI: Michel to use same lineup as versus Milan?
With just three points on the board, Girona find themselves an impossible seven points behind Stuttgart in 24th place – the last qualification spot for the next round. However, they will play for pride and will look to perform well regardless of their scenario.
Paulo Gazzaniga will start in goal and will look to keep just his second clean sheet of the tournament. In front of him, Alejandro Frances and Daley Blind will man the flanks in defense. David Lopez and Ladislav Krejci will take their places in central defense.
Oriol Romeu and Yangel Herrera will play as the double-pivot in holding midfield, with Donny van de Beek ahead of them as the attacking midfielder. Viktor Tsygankov will start on the right flank, while Bryan Gil will play on the left.
Arnaut Danjuma will take his place as the lone striker and will hope to put an end to his subpar run of games.
Predicted XI: Gazzaniga; Frances, Lopez (C), Krejci, Blind; Romeu, Herrera; Tsygankov, van de Beek, Gil; Danjuma.
