Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Celtic left back Kieran Tierney in this summer transfer window who is valued at around £25 million by the Scottish Premier League champions.
Unai Emery has a massive job on his hands to get Arsenal back to competing for major honors and this summer will be imperative for the Spaniard in terms of trying to sign players. With just £45 million or so to splash out in the summer for new arrivals, the Gunners might have to empty more than half of their transfer budget for Tierney’s signature.
Arsenal is no strangers to having a leaky back line and the North London side has been conceding silly goals on a regular basis over the past few campaigns. Emery needs to address this issue soon and therefore wants a left back the quality of Tierney to call upon at the Emirates Stadium.
Spanish left back Nacho Monreal is already 33 years old and is entering the twilight years of his career at Arsenal. Sead Kolasinac has also been caught out on plenty of occasions in defensive positions despite providing a quality option while going forward.
However, Tierney has been labeled as the younger Andrew Robertson from Liverpool. The 22-year-old notched up four assists last season and scored one goal as well across all competitions for the Scottish Premier League champions. Arsenal has already seen two bids in the range of around £19 million rejected by Celtic as they view their prized asset in the price range of around £25 million.
Tierney’s wage demands shouldn’t be a big problem for Arsenal as they would be able to offer the full-back around £70,000 a week following the departure of a few players from their wage bill. The young left-back is also capable of slotting in at center back position and can play equally well in that position.
However, it’s quite clear that Arsenal would have to generate revenue through the sale of a few players in order to afford Tierney this summer because convincing Celtic to sell at a cheap price would not be an easy task.
