With the season coming to it’s closing stage the big guns of Europe have already started to think about their team for the next season. The teams are analysing their performances of this season and trying to find the weak points in the side.
In the upcoming summer transfer window they are going to strengthen their squad with bringing in new players in those positions.
The Gunners have also spotted their weaknesses. The central defensive pair of Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi were looking really vulnerable at times. So, the team management are searching for a dependable centre back to strengthen their defense.
The Gunners have shortlisted some players in that position to go for in the summer transfer window. Borussia Dortmund’s centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos is on the Arsenal radar for a move possible in the next transfer window. The 29 year old defender is one of the main men in the defense of Greece National side too. He has all the experience under his belts to play for a top side in the Premier League.
Sokratis has made 29 appearances for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season. Sokratis likes to play in the right side of the central defense for his side. He has also scored two goals in those matches. His passing accuracy is certainly better than other defenders in the Bundesliga in this season. He is really strong in aerial duels and ground duels. His tackling ability is keeping him ahead of the others.
Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi’s pair in the central defense looked vulnerable at times in this season. The backup options are also not looking very much dependable for the Gunners.
Per Mertesacker is going to leave Arsenal after the end of the season. Rob Holding and Calum Chambers are still not ready to be regular starters for the Gunners. Konstantinos Mavropanos just played his debut match against Manchester United.
So, Arsenal need someone who will be an experienced one to lead the defensive unit and Sokratis is a perfect fit for the Gunners in that position. He is playing for Borussia Dortmund since 2013-14 season and has become a key player in the defense for them.
The Gunners could easily get this experienced defender at around £25 million. So, we can say that Sokratis Papadopoulos surely has the potential to create a huge impact for the Gunners in the next season and the club management should go for him in the next transfer window.
